What to Expect

Behavioral Health Group Lake Charles offers Outpatient care to individuals seeking mental or drug rehab but who also would like to stay in the comfort of their own home every night. A big difference between outpatient treatment programs and inpatient treatment programs is the amount of time spent at the facility. Outpatient programs are traditionally used most for individuals who have already completed an inpatient program and want to continue and maintain their growth and success in their recovery process. Outpatient is not designed to be a starting point for addicts who are seeking help and treatment and is typically referred to as aftercare.

Behavioral Health Group Lake Charles commits itself to provide patients with opioid use disorders evidence-based treatment in a non-judgemental, safe, and understanding environment. They have a dedicated team of physicians, counselors, and licenses clinicians who work to provide patients with the care, support, and resources they need to start rebuilding their lives.

In addition to offering outpatient opioid treatment and care, BHG specializes in a couple of treatment options for those with more specific needs.

Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)

The most difficult obstacle when it comes to breaking free from opioid addiction is managing and learning how to cope with the physical dependence that has developed due to the continuous use of opioids. The withdrawal symptoms can be intense, as well as the cravings and urge to use again. This is what makes starting your journey to recovery so difficult, and for some, it can feel downright impossible to get through.

There is a light at the end of the tunnel, and it can be seen with Medication-Assisted Treatment or MAT. This type of treatment utilizes a combination of medications that will help you get through the difficult withdrawal symptoms. A combination of methadone, buprenorphine, and the combination medication of buprenorphine and naloxone (AKA suboxone, Zubsolv, or Bunavail) is used along with counseling to provide patients with a comprehensive approach to treatment.

Behavioral Health Group’s physicians will meet with each patient to determine what course of treatment would be most therapeutic and best for them as an individual. Then they will continually monitor their progress through recovery. When the physical symptoms of addiction can be managed, the patient has a much greater chance of success and benefiting from the counseling services. The combination of medications with counseling and social services is considered to be the gold standard of care for opioid use treatment.

A common misconception about medication-assisted treatment is that you are replacing one drug for another; some patients and family members find it hard to believe that it could benefit them. However, this is not the reality of the purpose that MAT serves and how the medications work.

When I patients undergo medication-assisted treatment, they are going from recklessly using opioids in a dangerous, harmful manner and transitioning to a highly regulated and safe FDA-approved medication that has the primary use of helping treat addiction. These medications are administered under the care of trained medical professionals and physicians and greatly provide relief when it comes to symptoms of withdrawal and the physical symptoms of cravings associated with dependence. They do not provide any euphoric or intoxicating feelings, so addiction is not a concern.

Three commonly used medications for treating opioid use disorders are methadone, buprenorphine, and naltrexone. Buprenorphine and methadone are both opioid agonists, meaning they work by activating mu-opioid receptors in the brain. Unlike other opioids, they offer relief of withdrawal symptoms and helps curb the patient’s cravings without causing a high sensation. Naltrexone is an opioid antagonist, which means that it simply blocks opioid receptors rather than activating them. This also means that they do not provide the same relief for withdrawal symptoms. Suboxone is a combination of buprenorphine with naloxone for an effective medication approach used in MAT.

Addiction Counseling

Behavioral Health Group understands that each person’s journey will be unique. However, counseling is a fundamental element of achieving and maintaining long-term success in overcoming your addiction.

BHG counselors will meet patients wherever they happen to be in their journey and work with them to create both short-term and long-term goals for their individualized treatment plan. Their patient-centered approach to care and treatment empowers each individual and encourages them to be motivated and take their life back from addiction.

They evaluate each patient’s needs and provides them with the resources and services to help them succeed. They also offer patients the opportunity to identify and learn how to manage triggers, develop coping skills, and improve their mental health and overall wellbeing.

“They are good, professional, and kind people. The counselors are always caring. Nevertheless, I never understand why do they change your doctor so often because this doesn’t help with treatment.” ★★★★
